The distillery was established by Donald and Alexander Johnston in 1815, Subsequently, the distillery passed into the hands of the Royal Army, then British Whitbread among others and finally Suntory, In 1994, Prince of Wales, Charles of Wales, granted the "Royal Warrant" to the distillery.
