SCYFOOD > Japanese Whisky Macallan 1965 Special Selection 17 Year Old Contact Customer Service ENQUIRY The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and teacher. The original name of the area was 'Maghellan', which came from the Gallic word 'magh', which means fertile soil, and 'Ellan', from the monk St Fillan, which was closely related to the church that stood in the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400. Farmers had already been making whisky on their Speyside farms for several centuries. This was distilled in 1965 and matured for 17 years before being bottled in 1983. The classic 18 year old distillery bottling was launched the following year. 75cl/43%
