SCYFOOD > Whisky 1940 Macallan The Queen Mother's 80th Birthday Contact Customer Service ENQUIRY The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and teacher. The original name of the area was 'Maghellan', which came from the Gallic word 'magh', which means fertile soil, and 'Ellan', from the monk St Fillan, which was closely related to the church that stood in the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400. Farmers had already been making whisky on their Speyside farms for several centuries. This Edinburgh Crystal decanter contains 1940 vintage Macallan, and was produced to commemorate the 80th birthday of the late H.M Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. Her birthday fell on August 4th. 70cl/40%
